The first hello · 18+
Your first one-on-one video chat
You do not need a perfect opening line. A comfortable setup, one curious question, and a clear sense of your boundaries are enough to begin.
Open matchingMake the room feel like yours
Check the camera angle, microphone, and what is visible behind you. A quieter place makes it easier to hear the other person. You do not need a polished set or a rehearsed personality; a comfortable setup is enough. If you would rather not use video yet, review the other modes shown on the matching screen.
Offer an easy question to answer
A short greeting plus one genuine question gives the other person somewhere to begin. Ask about a recent good moment, a favorite way to spend a free hour, or what made them curious to chat today. Keep it open, light, and optional rather than asking for private information.
- “What has been the best small part of your week?”
- “If you had a free afternoon, what would you do?”
- “What is something you have been enjoying lately?”
Let the answer shape the next question
You do not need a long list of prompts. Listen for one detail and follow it: a hobby, a book, a meal, a place they want to visit. Share a small answer of your own so the conversation feels like an exchange instead of an interview. Silence for a moment is normal.
Keep control of what you share
A first call does not require your full name, address, phone number, workplace, social accounts, money, or verification codes. If someone presses for personal details, behaves badly, or the conversation simply is not right for you, end the call and use the available report or block controls.
A good ending can be simple
If the conversation works, use the messaging and account tools visible in the app to keep talking. If it does not, leaving is a valid choice. Matching is an invitation to see who is there, not an obligation to stay.
A little more clarity.
What if I freeze when the call starts?
Take one breath, say hello, and ask one easy question. You can also comment on a shared topic you both choose. A brief pause does not ruin a conversation.
Do I have to show my surroundings?
Check your camera frame before joining. Move private documents and identifying details out of view, or choose another mode if you are not ready for video.
What should I avoid asking a stranger?
Avoid pressuring someone for their exact location, contact details, accounts, money, or other sensitive information. Let both people decide what they are comfortable sharing.
What if the other person is uncomfortable?
Respect a short answer or a request to change topics. If either person wants to leave, end the call without pressure.
